Specialisms: Mental Health, Suicidal Ideation; Family breakdown, Single parenting, Importance/value of fathers and fatherhood
After a very difficult time with his divorce in 2013 which significantly impacted his mental health and pushed him to the brink of suicide; he subsequently became a single parent with full-time responsibility for looking after his son.
He realised that a lot of dads found the system (and society) working against them; hence he founded Dads Unlimited to help fathers navigate the labyrinth of family breakdown, and all that it entails. He wanted to make life easier for dads in his situation, and provide the advice, support and community he never had.
The charity was one of the winners of the GSK Impact Awards in 2022 for its contribution to suicide prevention and raising awareness for this group of men. He didn’t want anyone to have to go through what he had to and how it made him feel - just in order to have a relationship with their children.
He realised that the value placed on dads and their parenting, is not appreciated as it should be; and that even worse, in the midst of family breakdown, their voices are invisible and very little is understood about the impact this has on the mental health of dads as a result.
Naveed has a wealth of experience in keynote speaking to audiences at many national conferences and local events about his personal experience and the impact it had on his mental health within the field of family breakdown and loss of contact with children.
