Philip Briscoe is a men’s mental health advocate, podcaster, and author.
For over 25 years, he poured his energy into a corporate career - often in demanding, C-level, high-pressure roles. By late 2022, in his early fifties, Philip found his life out of balance and realised he wasn’t fulfilling his true purpose. Struggling with depression and anxiety, he reached a crossroads and knew it was time for change.
Seeking guidance for himself - and finding few resources specifically for men in midlife - Philip decided to create Mid-Life Men, a podcast dedicated to men’s mental health. Through candid, sometimes raw conversations, the show spotlights real-life stories from men who have confronted a range of challenges, from gambling addiction to adult ADHD, from depression to workplace stress. Mid-Life Men aims to normalise open dialogue about mental health, offering an accessible stepping stone toward further support. Since its launch, the podcast has released nearly fifty episodes and reached thousands of listeners in the UK, the US, and Australia.
In November 2024, Philip published Men Speak Up – Journeys Through Mental Health, a book derived from fourteen of these personal stories. This year, he is planning live events to further encourage open, stigma-free discussions around men’s mental health. As his work has grown, Philip has evolved into a global ambassador for men’s mental health, connecting with a network of practitioners and advocates who share their lived experiences. He is consistently humbled by how openly men share their struggles once they learn of his mission.
Alongside this advocacy, Philip runs a business consultancy, specialising in impact assessment for public and private sector organisations. Philip lives in Oxfordshire with his wife and their three children. By helping men find their voice, he hopes to spark lasting change in how society approaches mental health and, ultimately, save lives in the process.
