John Junior is a British mental health activist and Psychology student dedicated to challenging stigma and transforming how society responds to people experiencing mental health struggles.John Junior is a British mental health activist and Psychology student dedicated to challenging stigma and transforming how society responds to people experiencing mental health struggles. < Back John Junior Specialisms: Suicide, mental health, intersex, grief, addiction, cptsd, ocd, anxiety John Junior is a British mental health activist and Psychology student dedicated to challenging stigma and transforming how society responds to people experiencing mental health struggles. He is an activist, not an influencer, he doesn’t chase fame or money. He chases one thing saving lives. Sharing his lived experience, he speaks openly about suicide, mental health, intersex, grief, addiction, identity, and recovery, offering hope to those facing their darkest moments. Born intersex, John faced identity struggles alongside suicidal thoughts and self-harm from a young age. After the sudden death of his father, he attempted suicide through an overdose and was resuscitated. In that moment, he said to the resus nurse, he didn’t want to die, he wanted the pain to stop. That realisation became a turning point, inspiring him to transform his pain into purpose and dedicate his life to helping others so no one feels alone. Over time, John discovered that supporting others also helped him heal. Guiding people through their struggles allowed his nervous system to recover after therapies that hadn’t worked. In 2019, he founded John and Charlie’s Journey , a mental health movement centred around Charlie, a teddy duck who comforted him in his darkest hours. Together, they have met people from all walks of life, including individuals actively planning to end their lives. Thousands have been supported in person, with millions more reached through television and social media. What began as a coping mechanism became a national campaign encouraging open conversations, reducing judgment, challenging stigma, and normalising adults carrying teddys or plushies. John’s work has reached millions worldwide. He has appeared on Sky News , co-created and shared his suicide story on the BAFTA-nominated series Hollyoaks IRL , and campaigned to get 380,000 people off NHS waiting lists and into complex therapy. His on-going campaign to make all UK Police mental health first aid trained. A practising Buddhist, John incorporates mindfulness, meditation, and reflection into both his personal life and to others. He brings a unique perspective on identity, resilience, and overcoming obstacles, shaped by his experiences of loss, diagnosis, and activism. Every morning, John reminds himself, and the people he meets: "You are loved. You are wanted. You are needed. The mood is temporary." Through John and Charlie’s Journey , he continues to challenge stigma, inspire hope, and save lives. The root cause of our suffering is when we think, when we stop thinking, that is when happiness starts to bloom, we find peace. info@speakerscollective.org BOOK A SPEAKER OR GET IN TOUCH FOR MORE INFORMATION Submit Thanks for your speaker request and we will be in touch soon.

I am a mother, living with multiple chronic conditions, who has navigated the bumpy road of being different to my peers in family, friendship, education and employment. I have a lifetime of dealing with bullying in education and employment, because being different is “apparently” a threat to be eradicated. I decided in my 30’s to train to be a teacher, as I wanted to make a difference to those students that are often othered and let down. Sadly after 5 short years as a secondary school teacher, I had to leave mainstream for both my mental and physical health. At this time I still had yet to receive formal diagnoses for my neurodivergence and chronic physical conditions, this left me without the reasonable adjustments I needed to protect myself from the bullies. Apparently openly ADHtistic and Queer teachers are not welcome in secondary education, despite my students giving my classroom the title The Rainbow Room as a safe space for LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent students, during break times and after school. I am now working in education outreach; teaching and mentoring the students who were let down by the system, like I was. I am a fierce advocate for the neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ and disabled communities. I am especially passionate about supporting fellow disabled/marginalised teachers, students and their parents! info@speakerscollective.org BOOK A SPEAKER OR GET IN TOUCH FOR MORE INFORMATION Submit Thanks for your speaker request and we will be in touch soon.

I was born in Switzerland to a Spanish mother and a German father, the second of four sisters, an upbringing that forged a profound family bond within me. < Back Julia Engelhorn Specialisms: Parent Bereavement I was born in Switzerland to a Spanish mother and a German father, the second of four sisters, an upbringing that forged a profound family bond within me. Following my studies in Hotel Management and Tourism in Scotland, I delved into the dynamic world of startups while working for the Family Investment company. This period exposed me to a diverse array of projects and allowed me to connect with individuals from various walks of life. In 2007, I married my first husband and lived in Spain for a while. The arrival of our first son in 2009 marked a new chapter in our lives. Seeking fresh opportunities, we made the decision to relocate to Cape Town, South Africa, in 2012. As a dedicated mother, my focus intensified, particularly after the birth of our twins in 2013. The challenges of raising three young children alone, as my husband frequently travelled to Spain, fostered my independence and self-reliance. Unfortunately, our marriage, already fragile, ultimately led to a difficult separation, and our divorce was finalized in 2015. Tragically, in retaliation for the divorce, my ex-husband took the lives of our twins on April 6th, 2017. The ensuing years became a journey through the obscure and draining depths of grief. Thankfully, the unwavering support of my family and friends, coupled with the therapeutic power of art and nature, provided solace. Faced with a lack of resources for parents navigating similar heartbreak, I embarked on the writing of my book, "Precious Scars," detailing my journey and the coping mechanisms that guided me. The process of writing proved cathartic, solidifying my resolve to assist other parents grappling with the loss of their children to violent crime. In 2020, I relocated to England with my second husband and our children. Here, I continue to engage in creative projects and actively promote "Precious Scars." Additionally, I have immersed myself in charitable endeavours focused on supporting bereaved individuals, channelling my experiences into avenues that can bring comfort and understanding to those enduring similar pain. info@speakerscollective.org BOOK A SPEAKER OR GET IN TOUCH FOR MORE INFORMATION Submit Thanks for your speaker request and we will be in touch soon.
