Ben Jones

Specialisms: Mental Health, Mental Health in the Workplace, Student Mental Health, Work-life Balance and Resilience

Ben is a qualified psychotherapist/counsellor, with a private practice in Southport in the UK. He trained at Liverpool John Moores University, after a 20-year career working in mostly large corporate organisations in London, including Accenture, KPMG and PwC, working alongside dozens of major UK, European and international organisations. His work focused on corporate communications, including government relations, and communications strategy development and execution.

In 2014/15, Ben had a breakdown which prompted him to rethink his work, work-life balance and plans for the future. At the time of his breakdown, Ben was in a senior role in one of the world's leading professional services organisations (PwC) and subsequently became interested in work-life balance, resilience, and the relationship between mental health and the workplace. Working with a therapist at that time, he came to realise that he had been living with anxiety and depression for years and although pressure at work had been a factor in his breakdown, it was far from the only cause.

Ben is passionate about helping others to work out what is going on for them and hopefully to help them reach a better understanding and acceptance so that life becomes more fulfilling. He has worked in the public, private and third sectors, as well as academia.

Alongside his therapy practice, Ben teaches at universities, speaks at, and writes about mental health, work-life balance and resilience. His breakdown and subsequent recovery led to his change of career to become a therapist, setting up AMJ Counselling. Ben named AMJ Counselling after his daughter – ‘AMJ’ are her initials. It is a reminder for Ben, if one were needed, of trying to focus on the things that matter in life to him.

He was born in Liverpool and is proud of his Irish heritage. He lives in Merseyside with his wife and daughter.
